We work closely with a number of partner organisations to provide a wide range of high quality and cost-effective opportunities for supported schools, academies and other settings. Our partners include:
Youth Hostels Association
The YHA provide schools and others supported by the Educational Visits Advisory Service with a range of special support offers, including free of charge group membership and free staff planning visits to youth hostels. In addition schools have access to the YHA Breaks 4 Kids scheme which provides up to 50% funding support for children who are in need of financial help to take part in visits to youth hostels.
There is a strong Forest Schools programme operating in supported schools and early years settings. It is managed by the BMBC Forest Schools Co-ordinator who is also an Early Years Consultant who has particular experience and expertise in developing this context for learning in the early years and the primary phase.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The Youth Service operate the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and support a wide range of schools and other groups successfully operating the scheme. Direct support for activities is often available, especially for the expedition element of the scheme.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service is BMBC’s preferred provider of first aid training courses. They are able to provide cost-effective training courses at a range of venues throughout the region.
We work closely with Yorkshire Water at specific venues, such as the Langsett Reservoir and surrounding area for which they are the landowner, to provide facilities and access for educational visits and activities. In addition, Yorkshire Water make available a wide range of educational and leisure resources for group and individual use via their Education and Learning web site.
Peak District National Park Authority
In addition to liaising closely with the Peak District National Park Authority Learning and Discovery Team to provide access to their high quality learning resources, we work closely together on a number of specific initiatives. For example, working to provide easy access to Langsett Barn as a suitable base for field studies and outdoor activities near Langsett Reservoir, and providing a range on in-service training courses for teachers and others based at this location.
Kingswood Activity Centres
Barnsley schools currently have access to significant funding support for residential visits to the Kingswood Peak Venture Centre near Penistone and (for secondary schools only) to the Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre near Conisbrough.
Field Studies Council
The Field studies Council have recently provided funding for a number of residential visits for KS3 groups from schools supported by the Educational Visits Advisory Service to undertake adventure and environmental learning experiences at a range of their centres nationwide.
