Schools’ Poetry Competition

The Barnsley Schools’ Poetry Competition has been run by the Rotary Club of Stainborough for the last ten years and is sponsored by the trustees of the Cooper Art Gallery.  The aim is to encourage literacy in our schools and to give each young person who enters an opportunity to see their work in print.

Why not use the outdoor environment as a context to stimulate ideas for poetry writing for entries for this competition?

The Rotary Club needs an expression of interest from schools who wish to participate as soon as possible, but definitely no later than 20 October.  This will enable them to establish whether it will be necessary to put a cap on the number of entries from each school due to the limits of their printing capacity.

The Rotary Club will then contact interested schools with a timetable for submission of entries (probably March 2013) to enable them to produce the books and arrange with the CooperArtGallery a date (probably June 2013) for the presentation of prizes.

Please email your expressions of interest to Keith Garner at kmgarner@talktalk.net.
