Forest Schools in Barnsley

You may be aware that there is an exciting Forest Schools programme taking place in Barnsley. The following update has just been received from BMBC Forest Schools Co-ordinator, Julie Smith:

“During the Summer months of 2011 I have been lucky enough to work at the Forest School site at Silverwood with groups of children from schools, children’s centres and PVI settings who have visited with their practitioners.

The children have ranged in age from 2years to 5 years and I have also had children from KS1 and KS2 in schools. We have explored the outdoors together, the children have walked through the woodland, climbed, made slides, built dens and been involved in problem solving “ missions, “ we have built swings to play on, cooked on fires and much much more!

We have been lucky to have enjoyed sunny days at Silverwood and on many occasions just missed the rain! It has been a pleasure to see the children enjoying themselves in the outdoors, being active and able to manage their own learning in a challenging environment, by making choices and taking risks.

I look forward to next Summer at Silverwood already !!”
